It worked for me too... Thank you for taking the time and saving me $150 as compared to purchase and installation ($200) at a local PC repair shop!

P.S. I noted that the old unit and the new one (e.g. Dell Latitude 600M) had screens with different internal fittings. So my new screen could NOT be mounted inside the old framework. Fortunately I purchased a replacement that came with it's own frame. And it worked

You are very much appreciated as I helped a student fix a cracked outer case on his 700m laptop. It was out of warranty and Dell wanted quite a few bucks to fix it.

I just finished replacing the top half of my 600m by following these extremely useful directions and have one comment to add. At the first step, taking off the panel above the keyboard with the buttons, I made a mistake and took off only the blue layer, then still had to take off the layer with the buttons and hinge covers. The two layers are attached so rather than do it in two steps just take off the whole thing, buttons and all.

I have Dell Inspiron 600M. I disassembled the screen. I see the inverter board at the bottom. However, where is the fluorescent lamp. I feel I should replace both the lamp and the inverter board and be done with it.

Please, help. It would be good if you have pictures.

Thank you all for the insight. Although I didn't believe it the suggestion from Main was the solution. The lower third of my screen was failing, I slipped about four business cards under the lower left corner and with a few minor adjustments - I pushed the cards about a 1/2 inch from the corner my screen came back to normal.
Sometimes the simple solution actuall works.
Happy new year 2010
