I've got a dimmed 640m, suspected the inverter, changed it, but the same.
I presume the inverters are ok, cables look ok, no changes on screen when blending, pressing cables socket nor tft
It could be a cut in the white and pink wires from the inverter to the backlight or the backlight defective.
The symptom is the same, very dimmed screen, but no changes when I move/flip/press the screen, no horizontal lines nor blacked out bottom third, nor weird colors
I'll check the pink and white wires tomorrow and order a replacement TFT if they are ok, I'll tell you later...
Lot of good information on this thread, you cleared me a lot of doubts, thanks a lot Fred and others

Ps, I think the "DO NOT TOUCH" notice is cause the contacts of the LCD matrix is just under the top white protection, and very fragile thin soldered contacts on blend material, not from having mercury on top! (I've dismantled the whole TFT just to see if something wrong was visible...)

My partner and I agree with your results and can anxiously look ahead for your subsequent messages. Just declaring thanks won't merely end up being adequate, for that outstanding lucidity with your writing. I'll directly get the rss feed to remain privy with any posts. Great effort and much success within your business endeavors! Cheers!
